Etten-Leur will have a high-quality Van Gogh attraction in the Van Gogh Church thanks to investments by Van Gogh organizations collaborating in Brabant. The municipality of Etten-Leur has agreed to sell the Van Gogh Church to the provincial Van Gogh Sites NV. This step will allow the Vincent van Gogh Etten-Leur Foundation to operate the church on a long-term basis and the collaborating Van Gogh organizations to make long-term investments. With a multimedia experience, visitors will experience Van Gogh's first years of life as an artist here, on the spot where Van Gogh's father preached, starting in spring 2025.
Architectural firm Diederendirrix has won the audience award for Best Building in the Netherlands of the BNA Architecture Prize with the Van Gogh Village Museum. The jury praised the building's contemporary design that is simultaneously faithful to its unique history and surroundings. As client and user, the Van Gogh Sites Foundation and the Van Gogh Village Museum are enormously honored by the award and consider it a justifiable architectural tribute to one of the world's greatest artists.
This year, together with the Van Gogh Sites Foundation, Van Gogh National Park and Brabant Remembers, we are celebrating the year of the sunflower, with artistic fields and cultural events celebrating the iconic flower and the inspiration it provides, like 100 years ago when Vincent's famous Vase of Sunflowers landed in the National Gallery in London.

With the opening of the renovated Van Gogh Village Museum in May 2023, we are taking a major step and laying the foundation for further developments at the Van Gogh Sites Foundation. Visitor numbers show that we are on the right path to presenting the story of "Becoming Vincent" to a wide audience, highlighting Van Gogh's iconic value for Brabant and underlining the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of the Van Gogh sites. The approach we have taken in Nuenen, where the story of Vincent van Gogh is told in an accessible way with room for depth, we want to expand to other locations, starting in Zundert and Etten-Leur. This is also what our stakeholders, certificate holders and donors expect from us. While the direction is clear, we recognize that much work remains to be done to align local interests with our overarching vision. However, we continue to work on this challenge with energy and confidence.
With Van Gogh, Brabant has a world-class icon. His legacy attracts a growing number of visitors to Brabant from all over the world. Just as Vincent van Gogh needed financial support from his brother Theo in order to develop as a painter, Van Gogh Brabant now needs partners in order to preserve Vincent's legacy and expand its locations. In order to raise sufficient funds for this purpose, Van Gogh Brabant issues certificates.

Van Gogh heritage sites have been set up in Zundert, Nuenen and Etten-Leur. Visitors can start their journey of discovery through the world of Van Gogh there. In Zundert, the focus is on his early years and his family. In Etten-Leur, visitors will witness the start of his career as an artist and his complex relationships. In Nuenen, visitors will discover the intense quest for color and form that led to the first masterpiece.
